Some Artists Need to Let it Go

This was inspired by the Super Bowl:
While most people will be commenting on the amazing plays executed by the competing teams in the Super Bowl, I will be commenting on the poor quality of the entertainment aspect. Ever since the wardrobe malfunction, entertainment at the Super Bowl has been watered down. I guess they believe that music from the past is a lot safer to perform than the pop music of my generation. Unfortunately, it has been watered down by washed up artists. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for old school music, but a lot of artists just don't have it anymore.
The National Anthem performance was one of the worst I remember seeing in a long time. Who in the world thinks that Aaron Neville and Aretha Franklin can still sing. Aretha can barely breath to get the notes out and Aaron, well in my opinion, he never had it at all. I feel like America should be embarrassed by the National Anthem performance that took place tonight at the Super Bowl.

The people who plan the Super Bowl entertainment need to remember to get artists for majority of the audience. It should never be just one performer/group. I guess it's cheaper to keep it with one artists, but they were able to afford to do otherwise in the past years. Maybe I'm a product of my generation and I need to be overly stimulated, or maybe I just don't like the Rolling Stones.
Now the pre-show was the best part of the entertainment; however, it still wasn't the greatest. Yes, another old school person, Stevie wonder performed, but he was smart enough to invite other guests to sing as well. That way, old and new could enjoy his performance because it involved more than one music generation. If I were the person in charge I would have flipped the pre-show and halftime performances, but that's just me I guess.
Granted old school music is still the best because that's when people knew how to sing, unfortunately, those people can't sing the same way. It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it is.

you need to add aaron "the fabric of our lives" neville to that list.
HE SUCKS!
I think you're being too hard on Aretha and Aaron. The mistake was having two people sing the national anthem. Aaron was supposed to sing solo but Aretha was added at the last minute because of anger that Detroit artists were being snubbed from the entertainment. I would have picked Stevie, Smokey Robinson or Anita Baker as Detroit representatives for the anthem, and either Harry Carnick, any of the Marsalis brothers or the Meters to represent New Orleans. As far as exciting half time entertainment, it ain't going to happen. The uptight NFL would never consider putting on any reggae, rap, alternative or blues on. If I produced the half time entertainment I eould have George Clinton, The Meters, any of Bob Marley's sons, Steely Dan or Prince.
I don't think that'strue re: rap, reggae, alternative. They're just image conscious like everyone else from the whole Janet thing.
I'm not being hard on Neville -- he just isn't a good singer, period.
Here's the deal: after the boob debacle from 2 years ago, the networks decided that it was in their best interest to no longer have contemporary pop acts be the Halftime performers (rappers, wack r&b and pop music acts).
In some way, I'm not mad because all a Brittney Spears, Chris Brown or 50 Cent would do is make the whole show wack!
So even though a rusty, over the hill band like the Stones did perform, old school, as someone here earlier said is still best.
Aretha and Stevie should've had the halftime show, but they at least did get some airtime in their hometown.
Old school performances and an old school NFL team winning the Super Bowl: that's what it's all about!
